Our Rural Transportation expertise is diverse and it includes design and construction projects for intersection improvements, single and multi-lane roundabouts, grade widening of existing highways, new highways, twinning, and complex projects involving major bridges. Our full-service solutions include planning construction activities and detours to enable construction over an existing operational intersection. We provide services such as road safety audits, traffic calming designs, in service safety reviews and routine geometric assessments.

Our experienced teams are capable of designing complex intersections, including conventional flared intersections, roundabouts, and interchanges. Al-Terra was an early adopter of roundabouts and have gained significant expertise in the design and construction of them. Al-Terra completed the first roundabout intersection to connect two major highways in Alberta (Highway 11A and Highway 20) at Sylvan Lake. Since then, we have planned nearly 30 roundabouts in Alberta, and have designed and constructed 14 sites in high-traffic locations on highways or urban arterial roadways for various clients, including Alberta Transportation, City of Edmonton, City of Spruce Grove, and Strathcona County.
