East Trails Phase II
Al-Terra assisted the City of Edmonton with the planning, design, and management of the construction of 14 km of new primary and secondary trail development in the river valley. The proposed trails are in northeast Edmonton along the northside of the North Saskatchewan River from Hermitage Park to the Quarry Ridge residential subdivision and on the southside of the river, east and west of the Anthony Henday’s northeast river crossing. These new trails connect with existing multi-use trails in the river valley and include both paved and gravel components, and connections to and through a new bridge crossing of the North Saskatchewan River. The proposed trails were identified in River Valley Alliance’s Plan of Action and provide critical linkages to future trails in Strathcona County, Sturgeon County, and Fort Saskatchewan.
The development of a detailed plan for the construction of the trails was a challenging exercise, as the trails traverse steep slopes, cross private properties, and run adjacent to two golf courses. Creative solutions to site specific issues and open communication with property owners had proven to be very effective in resolving potential issues.
