Groat Road Bridges and Road Renewal
This project encompassed rehabilitations for the Groat Road Bridge over the North Saskatchewan River, the Groat Road Bridge over Victoria Park Road, and the Emily Murphy Park Road Bridge over Groat Road. Part of the scope of services also included modifications to the interchange ramps at the north end of the Groat Road Bridge, per the concept planning study and report completed by the City of Edmonton.
Al-Terra provided preliminary and detailed design services for the roadworks portion of the project as a sub-consultant to DIALOG. The north ramp alignment modifications were completed and presented as part of the bridge rehabilitation projects at a public open house in November 2016. At that event, public feedback indicated that improved pedestrian connectivity was of higher priority than the proposed ramp modifications. As such, the north interchange modifications were shelved, and opportunities to improve and enhance pedestrian connections on the south side of the North Saskatchewan River were reviewed. Once the opportunities for improvement were identified, including the roadway rehabilitation of Groat Road and the associated service roads was considered a logical course of action. After funding was approved, Al-Terra completed the preliminary and detailed design of the new scope of work from River Valley Road to 87 Avenue between May and October 2017.
