Nottingham Subdivision
Nottingham is an upscale subdivision on about 130 hectares in the southeast part of Sherwood Park, Alberta. It is a desirable place to live in Sherwood Park due to some unique facilities incorporated in the development. Al-Terra was involved in the initial topographic survey and provided technical support through the planning process. Our team completed all civil engineering design, including stormwater management, and provided engineering services for construction.
John Andrews of Cochrane Engineering completed the planning for this project with, landscape architecture by Penny Dunford of EDA (now Al-Terra), and Northwest Hydraulic Consultants completed hydraulic analysis of the storm piping interconnections between lakes.
The land form was particularly challenging to work with due to a large shallow lake surrounded by significant wetland, but a former owner capitalized on that by dredging an outside “ring” of lake and using the dredged material to build a central island. This results in a very aesthetic feature totalling over 15 hectares, as a focal point of the development. A second, smaller lake was constructed with an interconnecting creek, which flows continuously by pumping water from the large lake to the smaller lake. The island is a passive park with numerous trails that also follow the creek to the smaller lake. The two lakes and the creek provide for many great feature lots, and a very attractive overall development.
