Transportation and Resilient Communities
At Al-Terra our mission is to get people where they need to go and create places where they want to be. We apply design principles that consider accessibility, inclusivity, and intramodality to find a cohesive fit for the project and the environment. Seamless access through high quality transportation infrastructure and attractive public spaces are a crucial aspect of this consideration. Active modes offer more than just delivering effective transportation options – they allow us to address climate change, sustainability, connectivity through missing links, and ultimately the development of resilient communities.
Our teams collaborate to include accessible infrastructure throughout our design and service offerings. User experience is a central consideration in our integrated approaches to our projects such as streetscapes, arterial roads, renewals, parks, open spaces, and more. Our staff takes a Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA Plus) approach through which we challenge our assumptions when developing active transportation facilities, and work to promote accessibility for all. We aim to create transportation facilities that are welcoming and comfortable to use.
Our teams strive to continuously learn and challenge ourselves by taking a global perspective that considers the need for active transportation as a response to climate change. We draw inspiration from best practices and diverse community contexts such as the ones found in Belgian, Danish, and Dutch designs. We also familiarize ourselves with emergent design principles from a variety of examples such as the Netherlands CROW Design Manual for Bicycle Traffic.
